APRIL 29
Logan's sleeping has been completely screwed up, I guess I did jinx myself with my last update. First everything was going well and he started sleeping in his crib, the only problem with that was that he was going to bed at 8 and waking up at 3 in the morning. Then, one day e had physical and occupational therapy and that wore him out so, stupidly, I let him take a long, late nap. That night he was up all night until 4 and then he slept until 7. He stayed up that entire day with no nap and went to bed at 8 that night. The next night he didn't go to bed until 3 and woke up at nine, and then last night he went to bed at 11:30 and woke up at 7. So that has been a huge problem, the worst of all is that he hasn't been sleeping in his crib for the last two days and I'm worried that that shipped has again sailed.
The problem is that he likes to turn sideways while he is sleeping and he can't do that in his crib without getting stuck. I've thought about taking the full sized bed that we have in his room and putting it on the floor so that he can sleep on that and roll around all he wants, but I want to test it out in our bed before I do that. The only problem is that I can't find the stupid cord for the baby monitor so that I can sleep in the other room. Our apartment is so big and I sleep so hard that if he woke up and started crying I don't think that I would hear him. Doing this also means that Dave gets kicked out onto the couch, and I don't know how much he is going to enjoy that. However, the furniture is new and very comfortable, so that shouldn't be too bad for him. I've napped on it and I was comfortable, and he's shorter than me, so he should be just fine.
Like I said before Logan had Physical and Occupational therapy the other day. We are doing this at the hospital in addititon to Gail coming over on Fridays. The doctor wants Logan to have physical therapy twice a week since he is so far behind. He is so far behind not only because of the fact that he was in the hospital, but also because of the time that he was out of the hospital and not feeling well. At the hospital he has a seperate therapist for physical and occupational therapy. Their names are Nora and Robina and they are both really nice. Nora is going to work with Logan on his fine motor skills, like working with crayons and pinching and grabbing, mostly stuff with his upper body, while Robin is going to work on things like standing and walking. She even got him to stand up and, while kind of hunched over, support himself. It was really exciting to see. I can only hope that within a couple of months, maybe less, he will be standing up on his own and maybe working towards walking. He is currently really unsteady on his feet and he definitely can't balance himself. He also has the problem that he keeps his legs really stiff and he doesn't bend his knees at all when we try to get him to walk a little bit. That is another thing that the therapist wants to work on. Even though he has a long way to go I think that he is going to pick up these things pretty quick. Lord knows that he picked up crawling quickly.
Other than that there isn't much going on lately. He won't leave our DVD's alone and he has figured out how to open them, so that is nice. We constantly have about 30 DVD's spread across our living room, so our living room is constantly a mess, it drives me crazy, it makes me feel like a slob, but if I pick them up and put them away he just goes and pulls them right back off of the shelf, so I can't win. He freely explores the house now, but still follows me around sometimes.
He still won't let us put his hearing aids in and it is getting really frustrating. We can't make him keep them in without holding him down, and if we do that he gets very upset with us. And if we try to put them in and let him sit with them he just pulls them out and like I said before he is so quick that he'll have them out before we even realize that he is going for them. Kelly, his speech therapist, is going to get us something called Huggie Aids, which are supposed to help to keep them on, so hopefully those will help. I don't know what to do other than to keep hounding him about it and putting them in. He used to be so good about wearing them and he never pulled them out, but now they are evil evil things that he cannot wear.
Mom is doing really well with her recovery, in fact, her nurse told her that she could be the poster child for the surgery. They said that usually the second surgery is worse than the first one, but she is doing remarkably well this time. She is even allowed to drive again, so that's great. I haven't been working on the book lately, giving some time for stuff to happen before I write about it. I'm up to the month of March and I think that I should wait a few more months before I look back and write about it. So, instead of writing, I am working on knitting a blanket, which I love doing. Well, I should get going, Logan is quiet and that usually isn't a good thing.
APRIL 19
Well, there hasn't been much going on since I last updated the site, it's been quite boring around here. Logan is doing great, he is crawling all around the house, continually trying to get into the toilet and the wastebaskets in the bathroom. When I was trying to clean the other bathroom (after I had given him a bath of course) he managed to get in the cupboard and dump all of my makeup on the floor. When I tried to put the makeup back in he kept pulling other stuff out of the cupboard, I couldn't keep up with him. It was funny when it was all over, but it was quite annoying at the time. Plus, I have to keep the toilet brush up because he LOVES to play with that. He now only has to go to the doctor every other week since he is doing so well. I just have to drop off blood during the week that he doesn't go. That is really nice, I hate sitting in the waiting room for a couple of hours every week trying to keep Logan entertained when he wants to get down on the floor and play. We're having problems with his hearing aids, he won't even let us put in his hearing aids, it takes two people to do it and we have to hold his arms down. He is so quick that he can have them out before I even realize that he is going for them. We're not sure what to do about it. We'll just have to keep trying until he gets used to them.
Other than that, not much is going on. Oooh, there is another good thing that is going on. Now I'm risking jinxing us by telling everyone, but we have Logan on a sleeping schedule!! I'm so excited. He goes to bed between 10 and 12, and he wakes up between 7 and 8. It's great. He doesn't wake up in the middle of the night at all, sleeps straight through. The only bad thing is that he is still sleeping in the bed with me, however today I did get him to sleep in his crib during his nap. I'm really excited about that. I figure I'll do that everyday this week and maybe this weekend we'll try to get him into his crib during the night. It would be nice to be able to sleep in the same bed as my husband, especially since between everything that's gone on we haven't really been able to sleep in the same bed since last August. That's a long time.
